Kimani lchung’wa leads push to delay approval of ruto SRC Nominees

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has approved Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah’s motion to delay the approval of President William Ruto’s nominees to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). Ichung’wah requested an additional 14 days for the relevant committees to resolve pending issues before presenting the motion for approval.

“This House resolves to extend the period for consideration of the special motion relating to SRC appointments by 14 days starting December 11,” Ichung’wah stated. He cited unresolved concerns and the upcoming parliamentary recess on December 6 as reasons for the extension.

The motion was seconded by Minority Whip Mark Mwenje, who acknowledged the need to address critical issues before proceeding. The decision comes shortly after President Ruto approved 13 other appointments to various national commissions.

On November 11, Ruto nominated 20 individuals, including seven for the SRC. The nominees, vetted on November 22, include Sammy Chepkwony for chairperson, alongside Martin Kizito Ong’oyi, Aden Abdi, Leonid Ashindu, Gilda Odera, Geoffrey Apollo Omondi, and Jane Gatakaa Njage.

Once the additional time elapses, Parliament will revisit the motion, marking a crucial step in shaping the SRC’s leadership and operations.
